INTRODUCTION

The most valuable asset of any company is people. Without people all tangible assets and capital would be just that. What is a machine without someone to put it to work? What is money without someone making a decision on how to allocate it? What is a building without someone to occupy it? Humans are needed to make everything be more than just a thing. Sadly, only when something is valued you can see how valuable it can really be. One of the key ways in showing you value something is by protecting it, keeping it safe. This has not always been the practice of companies, as employees were often looked at as just a supporting role in a company’s value chain. Over time, the importance of employers providing a safe and healthful environment for their employees became a concern due to the human, social and economic cost of hazards. This is where Occupation, Safety and Health (OSH) came into the picture. OSH is an area of public health that deals with the safety, health and welfare of employees at work by prioritizing risk assessment and hazard control. This blog will highlight five types of hazards as well as a risk assessment using the risk matrix template. This however is not your typical OSH application, we will be dissecting I am Legend the movie, identifying hazards, assessing risk and doing a quality evaluation on an identified product seen in one of the early scenes.

So what are the hazards?

According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, a hazard is defined as a dangerous phenomenon, substance, human activity or condition that may cause loss of life, injury or other health impacts, property damage, loss of livelihoods and services, social and economic disruption, or environmental damage.

Our discussion of hazards in the movie I am Legend identified some hazards such as Physical, Biological, Chemical, Ergonomic and Psychological/Psychosocial. We explore the effects of each of these hazards in this movie and how they can be avoided.

What about the dimensions of quality?

Product quality is considered a major factor in developing sustainable competitive advantage.

However, measuring quality is a subjective matter as each individual has his/her definition of quality, there is no common agreement to what constitutes quality.

Using five of Garvin’s eight  quality dimensions, our quality assessment will focus on none other than the 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500. The specific dimensions reviewed are Performance, Reliability, Durability, Aesthetics and Features

Movie Synopsis: I am Legend (2007) is an action thriller film directed by Francis Lawrence. Dr. Robert Neville, accompanied by his dog, Samantha (Sam), is a brilliant scientist who appeared to be the lone human survivor of a lethal virus outbreak in New York City. An attempt to cure cancer by Dr. Alice Krippin created this virus referred to as Krippin Virus, which killed humans and transformed those it didn’t kill into cannibalistic mutants called Darkseekers. Dr. Neville, however, is immune to both airborne and contact strains.

Through flashbacks, the movie gives us an idea of the chaos caused by this virus and the outcome of Dr. Neville’s family. As such we can see why he is determined to find a cure. He was eventually successful in coming into contact with two survivors, Anna and Ethan, and finding a cure which in turn led him to “light up the darkness.”

HAZARDS

Physical Hazards

Physical hazards are elements or conditions that can cause harm to individuals through physical contact or exposure. These hazards are not restricted to any setting, as they can be found everywhere, from construction sites and manufacturing facilities to offices and even our homes. These hazards can manifest in numerous forms, including but not limited to risks from electricity, issues causing trips and falls, or problems arising from poor ergonomics. Understanding the different types of physical  hazards is the first step toward creating a safer environment for all involved. (Javed, B, 2022). Some physical hazards identified in the movie: I am Legend are speeding, falls from heights and noise.

1.       Speeding

Depicted in Figure 2 is one of the first scenes of  Dr. Neville driving a red Ford Shelby Mustang with a dog in the front seat while speeding through the streets filled with overgrown grass chasing a herd of deer; all of this in addition to using a weapon.

Speeding can be defined as driving at speeds higher than what is safe for road conditions. In this case, the streets consisted of overgrown grass which can lead to losing control. Speeding can result in vehicle accidents which can be considered a physical hazard that can result in injuries, fatalities and property damage.

Figure 2:gif obtained from Imgur.com shows  Dr. Neville speeding through the streets

Recommendation:

Dr. Neville should adhere to posted speed limits and adjust driving speed according to road conditions.

2.       Falls from Heights

By trying to escape a darkseeker, Dr. Neville jumped through a glass window/enclosure of a building as seen in Figure 3.

Falls from heights refer to incidents where individuals fall from a certain elevation instead of falling on the same level (such as slipping on a wet floor). This can be extremely severe, including broken bones, spinal injuries, head trauma and even fatalities.

Figure 3: Screenshot from movie of  Dr. Neville jumping through a glass window/enclosure

Recommendation:

If possible, Dr. Neville should have tried to find a safer alternative route for exiting the building. Although, given Dr. Neville’s situation, his best option could have only been jumping through the window.

3.  Noise

Dr. Neville and his family were accompanied by military personnel to a helicopter preparing to land. Figure 4 shows Dr. Neville, his family and military personnel in close proximity to a helicopter while it’s still in operation.

Helicopter noise is produced as a result of the aircraft’s movement through the air (aerodynamic noise) and the operation of the engine thrust system. Noise pollution occurs when sound interferes with hearing and causes stress (Orikpete, 2022). Exposure to high levels of noise can cause permanent hearing loss.

Figure 4: Dr. Neville and his family being ushered to a helicopter by military personnel

Recommendation:

Dr. Neville, his family and the military personnel should have been provided with some sort of hearing protection, such as ear plugs or headsets when approaching the helicopter that was still in operation.

Overall Risk Rating

The risk rating of Speeding was high (3×3= 9). Dr. Neville and his dog are not wearing seatbelts while driving in unsuitable road conditions and  through buildings. Dr. Neville is also distracted by the herd of deer which causes the likelihood of an accident to occur and the severity being high due to the speed at which he was driving.

The risk rating of falling from heights was not as high (3×2=6) as Dr. Neville is well built and athletic so the severity of the fall can be considered medium.

The risk rating of the helicopter noise was high as well Dr. Neville (3×3=9) as there is the possibility of the helicopter noise causing hearing loss.

The overall risk rating of physical hazards is high as the three hazards assessed ranged between medium to high ratings.

Biological Hazards

Biological hazards are pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi that can be transmitted to living organisms like humans and dogs. Exposure to these hazards may result in acute or chronic health conditions. It can be transmitted when pathogens are inhaled, eaten or through skin contact.

Viral Infection

In the action packed movie I am Legend, there was an extremely high risk biological hazard called the Krippin virus. It started in New York City in 2009 and quickly spread as it was airborne and the population was unprepared for the threat. When the virus began to spread, it was a sad sight to behold. Residents were panicking and frantically trying to leave New York City, in the scene below from the movie (Figure 5), there was no social distancing and masks were not worn by the majority of the population. The Krippin virus was so severe that it killed billions of people and those who didn’t die and were not immune became very sick and were referred to as darkseekers. What a scary time to be alive!

Recommendations

Anyone showing symptoms of Krippin Virus (fever and bleeding eyes) should be instructed to go to camp sites and kept in isolation. The entire population must wear PPE-masks and face shields at all times.

Figure 5: Residence trying to leave New York at the start of the outbreak

Food Poisoning

Dr Robert Neville was immuned from the Krippin virus but that still left a multitude of biological hazards to be weary of, namely, Food Poisoning. The screenshot below (Figure 6) shows prepackaged food being stored in 2012, 3 years after the Krippin pandemic began. Eating expired foods can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Even Though  Dr. Neville is a healthy man, there is still a high risk of him getting food poisoning, however, the severity will be low as his body will most likely fight off the pathogens quickly.

Figure 6: Dr. Neville choosing a sauce from his pantry

Besides expired food, Dr. Neville could have gotten food poisoning as Sam, the dog, was allowed to put his dirty paws on the kitchen counter where food was being made (Figure 7). The ironic thing was right after preparing the food and eating, he bathes the dog. Why wasn’t this done right after coming from outside?

Recommendations

We would recommend inspecting cans for expiry dates and cooking food on high heat and bathing the dog first or keeping the dog out of the kitchen until she bathes.

Figure 7: Sam, the dog with his paws on the kitchen counter

Contaminated Blood

Nonetheless, Sam was a sweet dog that died a hero. In the moments leading up to his death, Dr. Neville threw caution to the wind and yet again placed himself in a hazardous situation. Biological hazards have various routes of exposure, we saw how pathogens could be transmitted when inhaled (Krippin virus), eaten (food poisoning) and now through skin contact. The dog was bitten by a darkseeker, his blood would have been contaminated and Dr. Neville held him with his bare hands, this made cross-contamination very possible. Even though Dr. Neville is immuned to the Krippin virus the dog caught after being bitten, there are other bloodborne pathogens like malaria, syphilis, Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV) and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that must also be considered.

Recommendations

To mitigate this risk, simply wearing gloves and disinfecting the area before and after would suffice.

Figure 8: Sam wounded after encounter with darkseekers

Overall Risk Rating

The risk rating of a Viral infection was high (Likelihood=3 and Severity=3) due to the virus being highly contagious. The risk rating for food poisoning was medium (Likelihood=3 and Severity=1) as Dr. Neville is in excellent shape so his body will fight off any hazardous bacteria digested. The risk rating for Dr. Neville being affected by contaminated blood was also medium (Likelihood=2 and Severity=2) as Dr. Neville is immuned to the main bloodborne pathogen that Sam was infected with.  The overall risk rating of biological hazards is high as the three hazards assessed ranged between medium to high ratings. As such, biological hazards should be placed as top priority when mitigating the various threats.

Chemical Hazards

What is a chemical hazard ?

A chemical hazard is a potential source of harm or danger that arises from exposure to chemical substances. Chemical hazards encompass a wide range of substances, including but not limited to toxic gases, corrosive liquids, flammable materials, and hazardous waste. The severity of the hazard depends on factors such as the toxicity, reactivity, flammability, and physical form of the chemical involved. Exposure to chemical hazards can lead to adverse health effects, such as respiratory problems, skin irritation, chemical burns, or long-term chronic illnesses. In extreme cases, exposure to certain chemical hazards can result in explosions, fires, or environmental pollution.

Figure 9: Dangerous chemicals warning sign

The following chemical hazards were observed in the movie:

1.     Eye and skin Irritation from improper use of Vinegar

Figure 10: Dr. Neville dousing the front steps of his house with vinegar

It can be seen in timestamp 8:23, Dr. Neville is dousing his front steps with a bottle of vinegar. Vinegar, which is primarily acetic acid (CH3COOH), is generally considered safe for common household use. However, in high concentrations it can result in potential chemical hazards such as Eye and Skin Irritation

Undiluted vinegar can cause irritation to the eyes and skin. It is advisable to use gloves when handling concentrated vinegar or if you have sensitive skin. In case of accidental contact with eyes, it’s important to flush them with water immediately.

2.     Drug Exposure from improper administering of an injection

Figure 11: Dr. Neville administering an injection to his dog Sam

Giving someone an injection without using gloves poses several potential chemical hazards, primarily related to the risk of exposure to bodily fluids and the potential transmission of infections. While gloves primarily serve as a barrier against biological hazards, they can also protect against some chemical hazards.

It can be seen that Dr. Neville is administering an injection to his dog without using gloves. Chemical hazards that are prevalent in this situation are:

Drug Exposure:

a.      Medication Residue: Depending on the medication being injected, there may be residues on the needle or in the medication itself that can be harmful upon contact with the skin.

b.      Chemical Components: Some medications may have chemical components that can be absorbed through the skin and cause adverse reactions, especially if the person administering the injection has cuts or abrasions on their hands (Dr. Neville clearly has abrasions on his hands).

 3.     Toxic Gas Release from Explosion of Gas Tank

Figure 12: Dr. Neville’s gas tank exploding

Coming to the ending of the movie darkseekers found Dr. Neville’s home. In a bid to fight off the dark seekers Dr. Neville intentionally shot at his gas tank to set off an explosion. The chemical hazard associated with blowing up the gas tank is Toxic Gas Release:

Depending on the type of gas in the tank, the explosion can release toxic gases into the air. For example, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks may contain propane or butane, which, when released, can pose respiratory and other health risks.

Overall Risk Rating

The overall risk rating for chemical hazards is high (9). The Likelihood and severity of a chemical hazard in this movie is high (Likelihood =3 and severity =3). The constant presence of chemicals in Dr. Neville laboratory,  explosions, fires and needles can result in detrimental effects if Dr. Neville does not take the appropriate measures to reduce these risks.

Ergonomic Hazards

Ergonomic risk factors are workplace situations that cause wear and tear on the body and can cause musculoskeletal injuries. The musculoskeletal system is an essential component of human health. In addition to providing the body with structure and the means for movement, the musculoskeletal system acts as an endocrine system, stimulated by exercise, interacting through biochemical signaling with other organs in the body.

Some common ergonomic hazards are :

  • Poor posture/awkward postures.
  • Lifting heavy loads.
  • Strenuous tasks.
  • Slippery surfaces.
  • Repetitive tasks.
  • Poor quality chairs and workstations.
  • Awkward movements.

The following Ergonomic hazards  were observed in the movie :

Noise

Repeated exposures to loud noise can lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss. Loud noise can create physical and psychological stress, reduce productivity, interfere with communication and concentration, and contribute to workplace accidents. Throughout the movie Dr. Neville is constantly seen firing several shots at a time with a  shotgun and hand held gun. Firing guns in a place where sounds can reverberate, or bounce off walls and other structures, can make noises louder and increase the risk of hearing loss.

Figure 13: Dr.Neville holding a shotgun

Recommendations

1. Earplugs are a very basic but effective way to block out damaging external noises. They are low-cost and easy to carry. Another advantage of using ear plugs when shooting is that you still get some models that allow audio to pass through. This style will allow passive sounds, such as conversations and ambient noise, into the headset via speakers while blocking high-impact ballistic noise.

Figure 14: Illustration of earplugs  Source: https://www.audiophileon.com

Figure 15: Illustration of earbuds. Source : https://www.audiophileon.com

Figure 16 : Illustration of a gun silencer Source :https://www.ydr.com

2. Recommendation for Dr.Neville is the use of a silencer.A silencer, also known as a sound suppressor,  or sound moderator, is a muzzle device that suppresses the blast created when a gun (firearm or airgun) is discharged, therefore reducing the acoustic intensity

Another ergonomic hazard observed in the movie was bad sleeping posture.

Figure 17 :Dr.Neville and his dog Sam sleeping in a bathtub.

The darkseekers in the movie are unable to withstand sunlight, they are also sensitive to sound and  movements. As a result they can only come out at night and feed. In order to stay safe it can be assumed  that  Dr.Neville sleeps nightly in the tub to limit his movements and noises to avoid the darkseekers. Poor posture can throw your spine out of alignment and cause muscle pain in the back, neck, and shoulders. It can also contribute to rotator cuff pain in the shoulder.Less sleep slows down reaction time and decision making this means you make decisions less quickly and accurately.  Given the high stress environment it is imperative that Dr.Neville gets a good night’s rest.

Recommendation

Although given Dr.Neville’s difficult circumstances, it is important to sleep on a mattress and use a pillow for good sleeping posture. A pillow provides support to the sleeper’s neck and upper back when they are resting and they provide a better level of comfort . Choosing a good mattress that can correct your alignment is essential for pain-free sleep .Your mattress should hold your spine in a straight line throughout the night. It should also relieve pressure points and support your posture, which will help prevent pain.

Overall Risk Rating

The Likelihood and severity of an ergonomic  hazard in the movie is high (Likelihood =3 and severity =3) = 9.This severity is caused by the excessive usage of shot guns and explosives which can cause hearing loss. Dr.Neville uses no protective gears and therefore his risk level is high. Another severity is the lack of proper sleep which will over time cause back pains, cramps, lack in judgment and Muscle fatigue .

Psycholological/ Psychosocial Hazards

Psychological/Psychosocial hazards are aspects of the work environment and its requirements, including the social and organisational context, which are associated with mental disorders and/or physical injury or illness. Psychological hazards and Psychosocial hazards are terms which are often used interchangeably but we acknowledge the subtle difference in meaning of Psychological and Psychosocial.

Psychological looks at the individual state whereas Psychosocial looks at the collective. This means that psychological hazards take into account the impact of the Psychosocial conditions  on the individual’s mental health and behavior. The Individual is therefore reacting to the conditions of an environment or the collective psychological behavior of those in the respected environment or society, the whole. This insight supports the notion that  Hazards should not be looked at in isolation as they all influence another to cause psychological or physical harm.

It is important to understand that in the case of health and safety, the psychological hazards considered are only the hazards created by work and the work environment. This means that psychological and psychosocial contributors outside of the work environment are irrelevant under Occupational Safety and Health regulations.

We draw reference to “I am Legend” the movie, in this movie the star, Robert Neville, is a virologist in search of a cure, living in isolation and under the unfortunate pressures of those affected by the plague around him. His work surrounds being a scientist, however his work environment has a considerable amount of psychological hazards. Firstly, Neville works in isolation. He has been socially isolated due to the plague, which can suggest a lack of reward system, collaboration and support. These factors can lead to a stressful and unmotivated work environment since work load is not shared and can seem overwhelming and unrewarding as no one can acknowledge the work being done, also contributing to a decline in confidence.  His need for companionship is not fulfilled and he seeks it through radio broadcasting, in hopes that someone will show up. Additionally, social isolation can lead to depression outside of the internal work environment. The absence of family and friends can lead to feelings of loneliness which can be hazardous. To be alone every single day, only surrounded by those who can endanger you seems like the poorest quality of life! My will to live would not have been present, no pun intended.

Figure 18 : New York City in I am Legend

Secondly, as a scientist, Neville is tasked with the duty of collection of samples and tests in order to derive a cure. This task comes with the dangers of exposing himself to those infected, which can lead to fear and anxiety.  He is however filled with purpose to create a cure, recording every lead he has gained, though faced with mostly disappointments.

Figure 19: Dr. Neville capturing an infected human

Figure 20 : Dr. Neville examining an the captured infected human

This then brings out to our third point, tests and samples means there are trials. We see Neville undergo a tiresome vaccine trial  on rodents until he finally derives one positive outcome to test on an infected human. However, Neville experienced what he believed to be a failed attempt on his human subject as the serum proved to be ineffective, leading to further frustration and stress, which is especially heightened during isolation.  He is also filled with disappointment as he believed his expectation was not met, given the success with the rodent.

Figure 21: Dr. Neville exhibiting feelings of frustration after serum seeming ineffective

Lastly, the risk of working in an environment where you are targeted by those infected, especially after taking a key member of that community can raise paranoia, fear and anxiety. Those infected are aggressive and violent towards those who are not affected, longing for a taste of blood. We see those infected intrude his house and enter his lab as a plan of rescue and revenge. Neville experiences fear and panic while simultaneously trying to win his case by pleading to them that they can be saved using his serum, after recognizing his serum was successful on the infected human subject.  This is then followed by feelings of defeat and realization, which later influences his decision to sacrifice himself for the greater good, the cure was secured.

Figure 22: Dr. Neville trying to close a door in his lab to prevent being attacked

Figure 23: Dr. Neville pleading with those infected to protect himself.

Overall, Neville had no separation between his work life and home life due to the nature of his job and social environment, constantly living in fear. This can lead to feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, as no personal time to mentally reset is taken. We must also note that the social climate, external forces, influenced the hazards faced in his internal work environment. This then leaves one to ponder if it is wise for OSH regulations to not consider psychological and psychosocial conditions outside of the work environment. We believe that there is a direct link between employee behavior and mental state and external circumstances. We see in this movie the presence of grief due to the loss of his wife, daughter and later on Sam, the family’s dog. Suggesting that the work environment should make available resources that employees can use for their holistic well being.

Overall Risk Rating:

 3 x 3 = 9 (High Risk)

This psychological risk rating is given a high rating due to the main psychological hazard being social isolation. Social isolation affects the emotional and cognitive states of an individual , eventually affecting your overall physical health, like the development of heart disease and cognitive decline. Additionally, the presence of only infected humans who are aggressive and violent means living in constant fear and paranoia which can also lead to physical and mental illnesses.Due to the plaque, the likelihood is high unless Neville is reunited with other survivors and the numbers of infected persons to an uninfected decrease.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

-The provision of a support system that can increase confidence, motivation and share workload pressures.

-The search for human subjects can be done by someone trained and willing to do so, sharing risk.

– Allocate time for personal leisure.

– Limit time being exposed to those infected. Create a separate room to house those infected, only enter to draw blood and see changes.

-Provide emotional support through professional means to debunk trauma, anxiety and fears.

DIMENSIONS OF QUALITY

Figure 24: Dr. Neville’s red 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500

Performance

At the beginning of the movie Dr. Neville is seen hunting deer while driving a red 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. To analyze the performance of the vehicle, we needed to look at the primary operating characteristics. In a muscle car the main traits are speed, handling and power. While hunting the deer the car showed exceptional performance with great handling, fast speed and an aggressive sound which would indicate a supercharged engine. Therefore, the quality of the Mustang is high in performance for a muscle car. However, as a mode of transport for hunting; the size of the vehicle and the loud noise would be seen as low performance traits. The deer got away because the car could not fit between the abandoned cars and the noise gave their position away. Nonetheless, the speed and handling exceeded expectations making the Mustang a high quality vehicle in terms of performance.

Reliability

Reliability takes into consideration a product’s probability of failure or malfunction within a specified time frame. The 2007 Shelby Mustang is known to last up to over 200, 000 miles. Two common failure reports are alternator failures and shifting issues. Alternator failures may happen at around 100, 000 miles as the alternator wears fast. Shifting issues, though reported, rarely occur but have been reported by owners at 70,000 miles, suggesting the replacement of the transmission.

Though to some of you these words may mean nothing, it is important to understand that reliability takes into account functionality failures. Is this product doing what you expected or required? Is this product doing what it says it can do?

We believe the 2007 Shelby was reliable in I am Legend as there was no failure during the time Neville made use of a car known for its horsepower and being the most powerful road-going Mustang. The vehicle met Neville’s need for speed and quick shifts in order to capture food.

Durability

Durability can be considered as a measure of product life and can be looked at from both an economic and technical dimension. Technically, durability can be defined as the amount of use one gets from a product before it deteriorates. It can also be defined economically as the amount of use one gets from a product before it breaks down and replacement is preferable to continued repair. From these perspectives, durability can be closely linked to reliability as seen above.

The chosen product from the movie, the bright, shiny red 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang’s durability will be based on the number of times it has been used. As reliability and durability are closely linked, in order for the car to be durable, the car must be able to function without complication during its lifetime. Speeding through the streets to capture food seems to be a  daily activity of Dr. Neville and if these types of activities were being engaged in for 3 years we can certainly say this car seems to pass the durability test.

Aesthetics

Aesthetics refers to the style and look of a film. The director uses a combination of elements to construct the style of the film which prompts the audience to respond to characters, situations, colors and locations in a particular way. Aesthetics are cultural and personal such that what is appealing to one person may not be to another.  Dr.Neville is seen in the movie driving a  bright red 2007 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500.  Red is known through many different cultures and is symbolically known to portray  life, health, vigor, war, courage, anger, love. Over the years, the Ford Mustang has become a symbol of the American automobile experience, hitting the open road, and driving fast in a powerful car. The bright red car displays a symbol of strength and fast driving which appeals to the audience, thus making it aesthetically pleasing to viewers. The interior and exterior of the vehicle is seen in good condition which also adds to the aesthetics of the vehicle.Aesthetic attains its beauty only when the quality of the art is reached, the visual creativity achieved with its colors and the characters successfully portrayed. However aesthetics is truly meant when the meaning reaches the audiences and is acknowledged .

Features

Figure 25: Dr. Neville and Sam riding in their Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 (Source: reelthinking.com)

Features refer to a product’s traits or attributes that deliver value to end-users and differentiate a product in the market. We can agree that the features of a car often match the features of the car’s owner. Dr. Neville is a young, fit, and athletic man. This coincides with the features of his Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. The interior of the GT500 featured sporty elements such as racing-inspired seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and special badging. It’s a perfect match for Dr. Neville’s style!

The car came equipped with high-performance brakes, including Brembo front discs with four-piston calipers. The high-performance brakes were proven necessary as Dr. Neville required to mash sudden brakes when hunting deer in NYC.

The GT500 is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. With its powerful engine, the GT500 is capable of impressive performance figures. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 4.5 seconds. TALK ABOUT SPEED !!!. This is definitely what Dr. Neville needed to escape flesh-eating darkseekers.

CONCLUSION

Using Garvin’s eight quality dimensions, a quality assessment was conducted on the 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 seen in the movie. The vehicle was determined to be of superb quality with respect to Performance, Reliability, Durability, Aesthetics, and Features.

The five types of hazards (i.e., Physical, Biological, Chemical, Ergonomic, and Psycholological/ Psychosocial Hazards) were successfully examined. The authors found for all five hazards there were risks that scored a rating of 9 (High Risk). Table 1 in the link below provides a concise assessment that identifies the hazards and gives recommendations to reduce these risks so that persons may not be severely harmed. The authors would like to reiterate the importance of occupational health and safety. It is of utmost importance to provide a safe environment for employees and members of the public.
